Quick Tips

  • Keep your topper sealed until ready to use.
  • Store flat in a cool, dry place at room temperature.
  • Do not refrigerate before application.
  • Apply to fondant or firm buttercream for best results.
  • Avoid very wet surfaces and condensation.

Storage

Keep your topper sealed in the original bag until you are ready to use it.

Store flat in a cool, dry place at room temperature.

Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.

Do not store in the fridge or freezer before use.

For best colour and finish, use as soon as practical after receiving.

Before You Start

Wash and dry your hands before handling the topper.

Make sure your cake or cupcakes are at room temperature before application.

Edible toppers work best on fondant or firm buttercream.

Avoid very wet surfaces such as fresh cream, whipped cream, mousse, or other high-moisture toppings unless using a fondant barrier underneath.

For best colour results, apply onto white or very light-coloured icing where possible.

How to Apply to a Cake

  1. Make sure the cake surface is smooth and ready.
  2. If applying to fondant, lightly brush the area with a very small amount of water to make it slightly tacky.
  3. If applying to buttercream, place the topper before the buttercream fully crusts so it is still slightly sticky.
  4. Carefully peel the topper away from the backing sheet.
  5. Gently place it onto the cake in the correct position.
  6. Smooth lightly from the centre outward using dry hands or a fondant smoother.
  7. Leave the cake at room temperature and keep it dry.

Unless you have previous experience refrigerating cakes with edible images, we recommend leaving the cake at room temperature, or waiting to apply the edible image until ready to serve if the cake must be refrigerated. Condensation can ruin edible images.

How to Apply to Cupcakes

  1. For best results, place the topper onto fondant discs or flat, firm buttercream.
  2. Make sure the surface is smooth and not too wet.
  3. Carefully peel the topper from the backing sheet.
  4. Gently place it onto the cupcake and press very lightly.
  5. If using fresh cream or another moist topping, use a thin fondant barrier first or apply the topper close to serving time.

How to Peel from the Backing Sheet

Lift one corner carefully.

Peel slowly and gently, keeping the motion low and along the backing sheet rather than pulling upward.

If the topper feels soft or difficult to remove, humidity may have affected it, so work slowly and keep it flat while peeling.

Important Notes

  • Moisture and condensation can damage the print.
  • Do not apply the topper onto a cake straight from the fridge.
  • If the finished cake needs refrigeration, keep it as dry as possible and avoid condensation.
  • For best results, decorated cakes are best enjoyed as soon as practical after application.

Troubleshooting

My topper looks wet or shiny

This is usually caused by moisture, condensation, or a surface that is too wet.

My topper is hard to peel

Humidity can make the sheet softer. Peel slowly and carefully.

My topper is cracking or feels dry

This can happen if it was not kept airtight.

Can I place it on whipped cream?

We recommend applying it onto fondant or firm buttercream. For whipped cream or other moist frostings, use a fondant barrier or apply close to serving time.
